Toledo Museum of Art
Renaissance, Rococo, Romanticism, Realism... who can keep them all straight? Don’t worry, we can’t either! But at the Toledo Museum of Art, you will find all of these art movements — and more — plus begin to identify the difference between Abstract and Realism.
With over 30,000 pieces in it’s collection, the Museum offers only the finest works of art and is committed to enhancing its collection every year. The permanent collection offers visitors paintings, sculpture, glass, photography and decorative arts with works that have appeared in publications and traveling exhibitions.
The Museum is currently constructing the highly anticipated, post-modernistic Glass Pavilion which will house its glass collection and open in mid-2006. Fabricated completely out of glass, the Glass Pavilion will be an architectural achievement and a great new addition to the city of Toledo.
The Museum Cafe is an exhibit in and of itself serving up sandwiches like the Da Vinci or Seurat to salads known as Goya or Manet. The Cafe’s menu also includes classic children’s favorites and ice cream. And in case you’re in need of a jolt of energy, then check out the Museums coffee bar for a quick pick me up.
Looking for a new perspective on art? Then look no further than It’s Friday, one of the Museums special events offered each and every Friday evening. It’s Friday features live music, a variety of informal lectures, theatrical performances, and guided tours through the galleries that focus on different aspects of the collection each week. Plus, the Museum Cafe is open for dinner. What more could you ask for!
Think all you’ll find at the Museum is two- and three- dimensional art? Then think again! The Peristyle at the Museum of Art offers plenty for the musically inclined. Throughout the year, the Peristyle presents concerts performed by the Toledo Symphony and is host to the Toledo Opera’s Gala performance.
And for those of you who want to touch the paintings... why not check out the Museum Store where you can purchase original art, unique gifts and an assortment of books on your favorite artist. It’s much safer than going to jail!
The Toledo Museum of Art is located at 2445 Monroe Street at Scottwood Avenue. Admission to the Museum is free, but some special events or exhibitions require purchased tickets. The Museum hours are Tuesday through Thursday 10 am to 4 pm; Friday 10 am to 10 pm; Saturday 10 am to 4 pm; Sunday 11 am to 5 pm.
