ANNOUNCING MARDI GRAS 2011
Come To A Fantastic Costume Party!
Call it what you will: Karneval, Fasching or Mardi Gras! Put Saturday, March 5, 2011 on your calendar and plan on being at Oak Shade Hall (Home of the German-American Festival) for a fantastic costume party!
Mardi Gras, sometimes called the season of fools, is a long standing German and Swiss tradition of merriment and fun and is the one time of the year for even staid citizens to cut loose a little and go a little crazy dressing up in funny costumes before Lent. German-style Mardi Gras has been celebrated in Toledo for the last 46 years!
Presented by the G.A.F. Society, sponsor of the German-American Festival, and hosted by Prinz Dave Hoffman and Prinzessin Nancy Pinketure, the festivities will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, in Oak Shade Hall, 3624 Seaman Road, in Oregon, Ohio. The band, Alpen Echoes, from Cincinnati will play throughout the evening for dancing and listening pleasure. Alpen Echoes has entertained thousands at the German-American Festival and plays at many Mardi Gras events. There will be our own “royal” procession featuring the royal court and other royalty as well as a masquerade costume parade with prizes for the best costumes. Alpen Echoes will continue to entertain until midnight. Join us at 12:01 a.m. for a Fasching Frühstuck breakfast served in the Clubhouse.
New Orleans style, German and American food will be available for purchase, as well as a cash bar. Admission is only $10.00 at the door and only $8.00 if purchased in advance; children under 14 are free. Costumes are not required but are encouraged to add to the merriment of the evening.
