Northwood, Ohio

The city of Northwood, Ohio can trace its origins back to 1874. Located about six miles from Toledo, Northwood has a population of about 5,400 people.

Named Northwood because of its location in the northeast corner of Wood County, the city has gone through many changes since its beginnings. It became an incorporated village in 1962 and a city in 1982.

Northwood’s “claim to fame” is it is the home of the Hirzel Canning Company and Farms, which grows tomatoes and sauerkraut and cans them for shipment all over the world.

The Wales Road Industrial Community Park at the corner of Wales and Tracy Roads is home to a mix of high-tech, service, distribution and other types of businesses.

Northwood’s schools consist of two elementary buildings, one junior high and one high school.

The city also maintains three parks for various recreational activities and runs a baseball/softball league during the summer months.
