Rep Set to Stage Iconic Christmas TalePublished: 11/30/2011 7:00 am By: Katie Warchol
The Toledo Repertoire Theatre gears up once again for the iconic Christmas production of A Christmas Carol, Dec. 2-4, 2011 at the Valentine Theatre.
The retelling of the Charles Dickens classic follows the journey of the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge as he realizes there’s more to life than the contents of one’s wallet, and that love ultimately overcomes all. The Rep’s production is a brand new musical version of this classic show, with a new script, as well as a new score by local composer David Jex. Jex is a Professor of Music at the University of Toledo, where he’s taught theory and composition, as well as jazz studies for more than 25 years. His accolades include an impressive list of published compositions, as well as prizes and awards from prestigious art groups.
The Rep’s rendering of this timeless holiday classic takes place at the Valentine Theatre this year, giving the large cast room to spread out and more completely stage the production. Theatre-goers can expect elaborate sets, costumes and an energetic cast to match, as well as a live orchestra to accompany lively song and dance routines.
A Christmas Carol takes place Dec. 2 at 8 p.m., Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. at the Valentine Theatre. Ticket prices are below. For more information, visit Toledorep.org.
