Clear the Runway for EPIC Rocks Fashion
Toledo Local Features | 09/03/2008
The pulsing lights and music and couture fashions that dominate runways in New York City throughout Fashion Week will take centerstage in northwest Ohio during a celebration of both artistic design and good taste.
Presented by National City and sponsored by EPIC Toledo, EPIC Rocks Fashion will be one of the first-ever multimedia outdoor fashion shows taking place in the Entertainment District at Levis Commons.
“This is not your momma’s fashion show,” EPIC Toledo Director Paulette Cousino said. “We are going to emulate a high-end nightclub right here in Toledo.”
With over 10 local shops and 3 national designers being presented at the show on Saturday, September 6, Cousino expects attendees to leave feeling that Toledo is a fashion-forward city.
“Contrary to popular belief, we are not fashion anemic in this town,” Cousino said. “I want people to know they can find everything you can in New York right here in your own backyard.”
Along with witnessing the work of up-and-coming avant-garde designers, Toledoans who purchase VIP tickets will also have the opportunity to attend a St. Julian’s Fitness pre-party beginning at 5:30 p.m., have dinner at Fat Fish Blue and attend a comedy show featuring National Comedians Jake Johannsen and Tammy Pescatelli. VIP tickets are running for $150 per person.
But for those who are more interested in just attending the premiere fashion show from 8 p.m. to midnight, $15 per person tickets are also available. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Toledo Hospital Foundation and the Great Lakes Center for Autism.
Although local fashion shows have dominated other major cities near Toledo, the idea for EPIC Rocks Fashion came from a young professionals event in Kentucky.
“The leaders and staff [from EPIC Toledo] were watching a fashion contest being held in the streets and wondered why Toledo couldn’t do it too,” Cousino said. “We wanted people to know that we are fashion forward in this community and you can get high-end fashion from local retailers.”
And while Cousino hopes the event inspires Toledoans to shop local, she also wanted to stick with the goals of EPIC Toledo.
EPIC Toledo – which stands for engaging people, inspiring change – is based on the belief that a region influenced by diverse young professionals is a region that can attract and retain them. Along with attracting and retaining diverse young talent, EPIC Toledo also works to develop future business and community leaders.
“We wanted to connect people with one another through EPIC Toledo and EPIC Rocks Fashion,” Cousino said. “We are always trying to make a voice in the community.”
