OWE Records TAKESOVER this Weekend

by Ryan A. Bunch

The Ottawa Tavern continues its TAKEOVER Series this month with none other than Old West End Records.

This Toledo record label/collective is designed to do one thing, collect all the best players and bands in the city and elevate them so that they may levitate others. The brainchild of longtime music scene multi-instrumentalist/multi-stylist, Ben Langlois (pictured right) the company was founded on the principle that in these tough times, people are realizing now more than ever that local and less shipped is not just good for us, but vital. "The same should stand for our culture and entertainment," Langlois declares.

The mastermind behind the popular Bluegrass Breakfast and OWE'ver Easy series (Saturdays monthly at the Glass City Cafe), Langlois and OWE are slowly becoming a powerhouse of Toledo talent that is as diverse as it is quality. On the label, you'll find everything from electronic music to experimental rock, and from folk and bluegrass, to ultra-hip indie rock.

The best way to taste the OWErecs buffet? Check it out this weekend at the Ottawa Tavern (1817 Adams St.). It all happens Thursday, August 26 through Saturday, August 28. The music begins at 11 p.m. each night, and there is no cover charge. Dig in.
