Lourdes' Drama Society Launches Playwriting Competition
Lourdes Drama Society announces its third annual One-Act Playwriting Competition. Last year’s competition garnered international attention receiving submissions from across the U.S. and Canada, with the winning plays premiering onstage at Lourdes in the spring. Russell Weeks of Seattle, Washington took first place for his play entitled Off Campus. Wil Denson of Eau Claire, Wisconsin and Lynda Gaug of Saint Joseph, Missouri took second and third place respectively.
The competition is open to all playwrights 18 years of age and older. Entries must be one-act stage plays with performance times of 8 to 15 minutes. Submissions are restricted to original dramatic works that have not been previously published or produced outside of an academic environment. Scripts will be judged on concept, dramatic action, characterization and dialogue.
Cash awards of $250 for first place, $100 for second place and $50 for third place will be presented. The winning plays will also be considered for production at Lourdes as part of the Drama Society’s Festival of One Acts 2012. Entries must be postmarked no later than November 1. Winners will be announced and notified on Sunday, December 4.
