Nutcracker Leaps into the Stranahan
by Katie WarcholThe Toledo Ballet and the Toledo Symphony once again team up for the 71st annual Nutcracker.
Staged at the Stranahan Theater Dec. 10 and 11, 2011, The Nutcracker tells the iconic tale of the whimsy and magic of one little girl’s Christmas. The Toledo Ballet and Toledo Symphony performers train for months to prepare for this time-honored Toledo tradition, which never fails to captivate audiences year after year.
The Nutcracker follows Clara, who receives a nutcracker as a gift from her uncle. When she falls asleep with her beloved nutcracker in her arms, her dreams transport her to a land where her nutcracker prince springs to life and must fight a Mouse King and his army of rodents. When good prevails over evil, Clara and her prince journey further through her dreams, meeting wintry characters, fairies and a larger-than-life mother whose children appear from under her dress.
The Nutcracker runs Dec. 10 and 11, 2011 at the Stranahan Theater. Tickets are now on sale and are available at the Stranahan Box Office, Ticketmaster.com or by calling 419-381-8851. Visit Toledoballet.com or Toledosymphony.com for more information.
