Dance the Holiday Away in Uptown

by Ryan A. Bunch

It's Christmas! That means, more than likely, you have a day or two off and are looking forward to a mixture of some downtime and a few maniac manic panic days of last-minute shopping, wrapping, rushing from one relative's house to another, and trying to explain one last time to Granny Janice that No, you still don't like ambrosia, and Yes, you still haven't graduated from college or learned to tuck in your shirt properly.

The holidaze are weird times in our culture, but thankfully, we have drinking and dancing to get us through. And this Friday, Uptown Toledo is in your corner.

Shake your Christmas groove thing this Friday, December 23rd before you weigh it down with egg nog and sugar cookies.

Enjoy.

Old School Fridays: How the DJ Stole Xmas at Wesley's

Welcome to Toledo's longest-running DJ dance night. Spinning all the best old school funk, soul, and hip-hop, there's a reason that after four years at Wesley's (and a few years a few places prior), this night holds strong as one of the city's favorites. DJs Todd Perrine, Folk, and N.Mattimoe hold the dance floor down at Wesley's every Friday for a fresh, funky, wild style night of bangin' set lists, diverse styles, and one of the craziest, coolest dance floors you'll find about anywhere. The party starts every Friday at 10 p.m. Wesley's, 1201 Adams St. www.wesleysbar.com

Wait! Wait! Don't Touch Me!: Christmas Funtime Extravaganza at Ottawa Tavern

Downtown's resident hipster hangout comes complete with its own faux-DJ dance night, the semi-regular series known as Wait! Wait! Don't Touch Me! Laptop-jockeys DJ Tanner, DJ Baracus and Congressman Please & Thank You weave all your favorite '80s jams,'90s pop, and silly mash-ups together to make for one wild and crazy night of wallflowers-cum-blackout tail-waggers. If tradition holds true, Madonna will turn up at the end of the night and lead a dance dance revolution on the OT's bartop that'll make for a hilarious/embarrassing hangover memory at Christmas Eve dinner the next day. Ottawa Tavern, 1815 Adams St. www.otavern.com
