Local '70s party band Locoweed rocks Legends Again Saturday

Back in the late-60s and 70s in America, amidst the wailing, groundbreaking rock of Jimi Hendrix, and the far-flung freakouts of Jefferson Airplane, there was a slightly more subdued roots-rock scene happening across the country. Championed by acts like Gram Parsons, Buffalo Springfield, the Byrds, the Eagles, and Flying Burrito Brothers (along with countless others), it's music that gets right to the hilly Appalachian heart of Americana.

In Toledo, there were only a few acts that were hip to the roots-rock tip. In fact, by-and-large, Locoweed was nearly all alone. The band ruled the local circuit, packing bars and playing local festivals near every weekend. Playing covers of some of their favorite groups, they provided a venue for both similar roots-rock local music lovers to get their ya-ya's out, as well as a way to turn new people on to the music. All good things come to end, though, and eventually, the band broke up, taking a 20-plus year hiatus. They reformed in the early-aughts to revisit their old favorites, and have been rocking local venues just like the good old days since.

This week, Locoweed brings the fun to Legends Again (6719 Providence Rd.) in Whitehouse from 9:30 ? 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 21. Get a little taste of the past. 419.877.5334
