A Place to Bury Strangers a must see Thursday at Frankie's

Hailing from Brooklyn, NYC, A Place to Bury Strangers rolls through town this Thursday at Frankie's.
Often called “the loudest band in New York,” the trio is known for their trademark high-intensity shows and trippy lighting effects. Frankly, it's one of the best rock shows you'll see in Toledo this year.
With a sound that might be best described as 'psychedelic shoegaze,' the guitared-out fuzzy groove of this band is at times reminiscent of dark past masters in the vein of Jesus and Mary Chain, The Cure, and others. But APTBS's sound is all their own. It's wildly full, experimental and exploratory, but anchored by a solid rhythm section and dreamy, dreary, catchy melodies. The music is at once honed and loose. As the band itself says, "The sonically overdriven sound they've accomplished is no clumsy accident, but a carefully cultivated and well-maintained entity all its own."
With bright white lights gleaming from the stage, casting the band members as mere shadows in their own show, the intricate haze of the music envelopes the audience and casts you quickly into a deep trance that (if you let it) will take you anywhere you're willing to go. It's an intense aural and visual experience that leaves a lot of room to crawl around in, and is one that you won't soon forget.
Aside from the fact that their music and performance is about as top-notch as it comes, I had the good pleasure of chatting with the band after their last show at Frankie's. I was impressed at how sincerely kind they were, and how genuinely eager they were to meet the audience and learn about Toledo.
If you do one thing right this week, go see A Place to Bury Strangers. Unless you're epileptic, there's not a chance you'll regret it (but seriously, this show should come with a warning. The lighting is probably not safe for those with medical conditions. In that case, you might consider bringing a welding mask or a blindfold).
A Place to Bury Strangers plays Frankie's Inner City (308 Main Street) on Thursday, March 8.
Big Black Delta opens. 9 p.m. $10 advance/$12 at the door. www.frankiesinnercity.com
