Open Caricature Workshop At Launch Pad Cooperative
Eye On Art | 08/09/2012
Even though it looks fun, drawing someone's caricature--a cartoonish portrait that exaggerates the subject's facial features--can prove to be a very difficult task. Not everyone can draw an effective caricature, but you can learn a few helpful tips at Launch Pad Cooperative's first ever Caricature Workshop.
Lead by Launch Pad Core Member and local caricature artist Ian Welch, the workshop will be held on August 18th from 1-3 p.m at the co-op's gallery space located at 911 Jefferson Avenue. Participants will learn how to recognize features, create a quick likeness using markers and other tools of the trade, and then have the opportunity to pair off and create their own caricatures."I started drawing caricatures working at the Toledo Zoo," Welch said. "It eventually became part of my artistic aesthetic overall including my fine art. Caricatures are still something I find challenging and fun to do."
Early bird registration is $20 (before August 11th) and $25 the week of the workshop. Register as a group of three or more and receive a discount at $15 a piece. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Email Ian Welch at [email protected] or register online at www.launchpadcoopertive.com. The cooperative is also open Fridays from 4-7 p.m. and Saturdays from noon-5 p.m.
