Bands Dominate at Music Fest 2012

Nothing says, "Welcome back students!" better than a good old fashioned music festival. The University of Toledo embraces the student body and surrounding community on Friday, September 14 for Music Fest 2012. Bringing in local, regional and national touring acts spanning various genres, the line-up features a diverse selection and offers a little something for everyone's listening pleasure.

"Those familiar with Music Fest will know that we try to present a spectrum of musical styles, from pop rock to reggae to the Motown sound," said Vice President for External Affairs, Lawrence Burns.  "And this year will be no different. In fact, this will be our biggest year yet."

The day-long celebration, which leads in to the school year's inaugural football game against Bowling Green State University, features seven standout acts, including the winners of this year's Local Band Challenge, The Dumb Easies.

"Being a Bowling Green band, it was a nice surprise!" said The Dumb Easies. "We can't wait to play at the UT Music Fest."

During the Local Band Challenge round, The Dumb Easies put all seven members of their band to work on reaching the masses via Facebook. And it really paid off, since they will be kicking off the festival at 3 p.m.

Rounding out the line-up is Hot Sauce from Detroit (R&B), K'Jon (hip-hop/soul), Alexander Zonjic and Jeff Lorber (jazz), Tyler Hilton (singer/songwriter), Gloriana (country), and headliners Bowling For Soup (pop/punk).

Music Fest 2012 is a free event and runs 3 p.m.-midnight. The festival is open to everyone from current and former students to prospective students, faculty, staff and community members. A pep rally featuring appearances by Coach Campbell and the UT Rockerts, cheerleaders, Rocky, Rocksy and the Rocket Marching band is also scheduled. Guests can enjoy food and other fun activities, including the Blade's Photobooth, Detroit Red Wings interactive stations, Falcon Roast Wing eating competion and the Black and White Cash Cab.
