Imagination Station Egg Drop Challenge

Daily Dose  |  04/05/2013

As part of Imagination Station’s EGGciting Spring Break EGGstravaganza, EGGstreme Science, the science center is inviting visitors to participate in the EGG Drop Challenge, Saturday, April 6, 12-4pm.

Eggs are fragile (and messy if they break!). Your mission ? protect your egg from cracking as you drop it from a balcony. EGGciting prizes will be awarded.

This challenge simulates the science used in protective gear for athletes. Visitors will build and test protective padding for an egg. Many of the design considerations surrounding an egg drop are similar to sports equipment design. We challenge you to work as a material engineer and figure out the best way to keep your athlete (in this case, an egg) as safe as possible during an impact.

Rules for Competition
?    The whole protective system may be no larger than an 8?8 inch box.
?    You must be able to easily remove your egg for viewing.
?    You must drop your egg from a 20 ft. balcony.
?    Participants that have a surviving egg will be entered into a drawing to win a prize.
