Eternity, The Shakespeare Critiques and Couples Therapy were the winners of the Drama Society’s One Act Playwriting Competition held last fall. The competition garnered international attention and received over 140 submissions from across the U.S. and Canada.

Elan Garonzik of New York, NY, was awarded first-place for his play, Eternity. On arriving at the pearly gates of heaven, 81-year old Lilly learns she must spend eternity looking as she did the moment she died.  Unwilling to accept this fate, she must convince Saint Peter to consider other options.

Second-place playwright, Louis Felder of Studio City, CA, submitted The Shakespeare Critiques in which six theatre-goers have just witnessed the very first staged-reading of Hamlet.  They are then given the opportunity to provide feedback to the playwright on how he might go about improving the play.

Couples Therapy, by Matt Crowley of Brooklyn, NY, captured third-place, and is the tale of a dysfunctional couple. When Janet agrees to take Harry’s mysterious shortcut through the woods to pick up a prescription at a local drugstore, she learns he has an ulterior motive.

Performances will be Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, April 21 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 for general admission and $5 for seniors. The Festival of One Acts will take place in the Franciscan Center Theatre. For tickets, call 419-824-3999.
