It’s time to start planning for summer break, and Toledo Botanical Garden has an array of kids’ camps to consider. There’s a program for campers of all interests and suitable for children ages 6-14.
Camp TBG, running June 24-28 and August 5-9, features a pirate theme with activities centered on buried treasure, sailing ships, games, crafts and hands-on science. Don’t miss out mateys, or you might have to walk the plank!
Pioneer Life camp, running June 11, allows campers a chance to travel back in time to 200 years ago. Explore Peter Navarre Cabin and get first hand experience with grinding corn, churning butter, wood-cutting and other challenges and joys of pioneer life. A second Pioneer Life camp is scheduled for Tuesday, June 18 with additional activities.
Fairy Gardens camp, running June 19th, gives campers the opportunity to craft their very own dream garden. Fantasy worlds can be built to include fairies and princesses or dinosaurs, gnomes and construction trucks. Materials are provided, but feel free to bring some of your own miniatures. Camp will conclude with shared “fairy tales” about the TBG gardens.
The final three camps are all about food. On August 1st, enjoy What’s Cooking in the Garden, a camp that allows young chefs to slice and dice goods grown in the gardens. Of course, you’ll get to taste test yourself, and even share a sample with your favorite parent or guardian. On August 13th, check out CuisinArtists where you’ll discover what can be made with a few simple garden herbs and veggies. And finally on August 15th, participate in Outdoor Cooking in the Garden. This camp is for the outdoorsy young cooks eager to harvest and prepare a meal suitable for cooking over an open fire.
