Play Ball!

Keeping Up With Kids  |  05/01/2013 8:00 am

The Mud Hens Baseball Camps are back for the 2013 season. The Toledo Mud Hens will again be holding their annual one-day and three-day baseball camps in 2013 at Fifth Third Field. In 2013, there will be two separate three-day camps, a one-day camp for kids, an adult/child one-day camp, and a special needs baseball clinic. Details on each camp can be found below. These camps will sell out, so make your reservation early to guarantee a spot.

During every Mud Hens baseball camp, Mud Hens players and coaches will teach kids what it takes to become the best ballplayer they can be. Campers will learn basic fundamentals (like hitting and pitching) and specialized skills (like bunting and turning double plays). Mud Hens baseball camps are a great way for kids to improve their baseball skills, make new friends and, most importantly, have fun.

Three-Day Camps for kids ages 7 to 14 are extremely in-depth and will cover all aspects of the game of baseball. The first two days of the camp feature stations around the field where Mud Hens players teach the campers baseball fundamentals. The final day of the camp will feature several competitions (Speed Pitch, Gold Glove and a Race to 1st Base). Camps run June 18-20, and July 30-August 1.

Each Three-Day Camp concludes with an awards ceremony held in the 4th floor 'Roost Banquet Hall' at Fifth Third Field with a special appearance by Muddy (the awards ceremony is open to anyone wishing to attend. Those looking to attend may enter the Roost from the Washington Street entrance next to the Swamp Shop.) Certificates will be awarded to the competition winners and prizes will be drawn randomly.

Three-Day Camp registration is $130. All campers who participate in the Three-Day Camps will receive the following:

Lunch on all three days (Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, & Pizza w/ chips & soda)

The One-Day Camp in May will cover all the fundamentals of baseball and enable kids to play and learn from the pros! The camp is open to kids ages 7 to 14. Camp runs Saturday, May 18th from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. One-Day Camp registration is $45. All campers who participate in the One-Day Camp will receive the following:

The Adult/Child Camp is a chance for children between the ages of 5 and 14 to learn baseball skills from Mud Hens coaches and players along with a parent, grandparent, brother, sister, or any other adult (18 or older) who would like to accompany them. In turn, we hope the adults will continue to practice those same skills with the children when they go home. Adults should bring their baseball mitt so they can join in on the drills and lessons. Adult/Child One-Day Camp registration is $70. Camp runs Sunday, June 2nd from 9 a.m.- noon. All campers who participate in the Adult/Child Camp will receive the following:

Free ticket for the Adult and Child

Souvenir baseball for autographs (Child)

Finally, the Special Needs Baseball Clinic is open to any child between the ages of 5 and 18 with any disability. This one-hour, pre-game clinic will take place on the field prior to the Mud Hens game at Fifth Third field. Mud Hens players will split the kids into teams and play a game with them on the field. One adult chaperone is required to be in attendance with each child attending the clinic. Runs Saturday, June 1st from noon-1:30 p.m. Special Needs Clinic registration is $25. All campers who participate in the Special Needs Clinic will receive the following:
