Music Under the Stars Returns to the ZooPublished: 06/25/2013
The Toledo Symphony is pleased to announce the return of Music Under the Stars for July of 2013.
For over 60 years, Music Under the Stars with the Toledo Concert Band has been creating family memories at the Toledo Zoo Amphitheater.
Thanks to the generosity of sponsoring and supporting partners, Music Under the Stars will continue to be a beloved summer pastime. Mercy is proud to be lead sponsor of the series. Music Under the Stars is also presented by The Andersons and supported by Dana, Huntington Bank, Taylor Cadillac and the Toledo Zoo.
The series will run for four consecutive July Sundays at 7:30pm, July 7 through July 28. As always, concerts will occur at the Toledo Zoo Amphitheatre. Seating is first-come, first-serve.
Additionally, the Symphony is pleased to announce that TARTA will continue its popular "Stars Shuttle" this summer. TARTA will provide a shuttle to the event (similar to the Mud Hens "Muddy Shuttle") from several regional locations. Cost to use the shuttle is $1 per person each way. Locations for pick-up and drop-off are listed below.
The first concert on July 7th will have a patriotic theme, and feature classic Sousa marches, beloved works by Copland and Gould, and a medley honoring armed service veterans. Robert Mirakian, Assistant Conductor of the Toledo Opera, Music Director of the Perrysburg Symphony and Director of the University of Toledo Symphony, will conduct.
Two conductors will be featured this season--Robert Mirakian and Bruce Moss. Both conducted Music Under the Stars last year. Mr. Mirakian will conduct the group on the 7th and 28th, while Mr. Moss will conduct on the 14th and 21st.
The themes for each week are diverse:
July 7 - Patriotic Pops
July 14 - What's in a WORD?
July 21 - Centennials, Bicentennials and More!
July 28 - The American Songbook
"Because the Toledo Symphony's mission is to meet the musical needs of northwest Ohio, we applaud the financial partnership of our corporate and community sponsors that keeps these lively performances a beloved summer tradition," says Kathleen Carroll, President and CEO of the Toledo Symphony.
"Free access to anyone who wants to hear music in such a lovely outdoor setting is a tremendous gift to the community," she added.
Mayor Mike Bell is also a fan of the series. He says, “Access to strong cultural institutions like the Toledo Symphony contributes to the quality of life in communities across the country. Thanks to community partners and sponsors, the symphony is able to make these family-friendly events accessible to the Toledo region at no cost, and with the added partnership from TARTA they take the hassle out of transportation and parking by offering affordable fares.”
"There is something so special about enjoying live music, outside, and in an environment that celebrates the wonders of our natural world. Mercy is proud to support The Toledo Zoo's Music Under the Stars -- one of the most beloved summer traditions in Northwest Ohio," said Andrea R. Price, President and CEO of Mercy.
As always, admission to Music Under the Stars is free. Parking at the Zoo is free to Toledo Zoo members and $6 for everyone else ($15 for buses and campers).
The series is produced by the Toledo Symphony.
