Launch Pad Cooperative Presents Emily Dorr

Eye On Art  |  08/21/2013

Launch Pad Cooperative is very pleased to present a solo exhibition by the highly talented, Troy, NY-based artist, Emily Dorr, opening September 12, 2013 through October 25, 2013. Everlasting Home/ Ephemeral Archive is composed of installations using entomology pins and collage taken from Dorr’s personal archive of images. The structure of the installations are derived from naturally occurring forms such as swarms, clusters, and murmurations. Themes of fertility, the home, traditional customs, childhood, and violence are extrapolated through juxtaposition, deconstruction, and semiology. Each work is carefully planned beforehand in order to elevate underlying themes, while holding onto immediate contexts. The work’s meticulous construction provokes a worrisome contrast with the resulting product; a short, delicate life span.

This will be Launch Pad’s first exhibition by an artist outside of the region. This is also the initial effort of LPC’s co-directors Timothy Gaewsky and Crystal Gale Phelps to not only expose the local community to compelling, new forms of art, but also to provide the visiting artists a positive Toledo experience they can take home with them. Dorr will spend three weeks in Toledo while she works on her installation and will be present during the opening reception on September 12, from 6-9pm. An exhibition catalog will be available following the opening of the exhibition. An artist talk will also be scheduled at the closing of the show.

Hailing from the Hudson Valley region, Dorr has exhibited at the Albany Center Gallery (Albany, NY), Times Union Center (Albany, NY), Hudson Disco-Tek (Albany, NY) and the Teaching Gallery (Troy, NY).  Dorr earned her Associate in Fine Art at Hudson Valley Community College and is finishing her Bachelors of Fine Art with a concentration in Painting and Drawing at the State University of New York at New Paltz. She currently lives and works in Troy, NY.
