The Shorties U youth film program. Students in 5th through 8th grade are invited to sign-up for this 4-day workshop. Led by area experts, this experience takes students through the steps of how to create their own short films – including developing an idea, writing a script, shooting on a budget and the fundamentals of editing. During the course of the workshop students will participate in making team short films.
Classes will take place on February 25th, March 4th, 11th, and 18th. The first three Saturdays will be held at the Northview High School Performing Arts Center while the fourth Saturday will be held Olander Park’s Nederhouser Community Hall. The price is $65 per student and includes classroom instruction and hands on film making of a Shorties film. Applications are available online at http://bit.ly/2i93UIQ or www.sylvaniaarts.org/shorties-u.
The Tree City Film Festival’s 50-hour Challenge is an exciting and intense weekend that invites teams of filmmakers to write, shoot, edit, and publish their own short films in just 50 hours. The filming takes place during one weekend in March. At the beginning of the event, each team receives a series of elements that must be incorporated into their film – things like a particular genre, prop, line of dialogue, character name and shooting location. After the allotted 50 hours are over and the films are accepted, they are juried by a guest panel of judges that are currently working in the film industry today.
The filming will take place the weekend of February 10-12 following a kick-off event at Sodbuster Bar & Grill, 5758 Main Street, Sylvania. The screening and awards ceremony will take place on March 25 at Olander Park’s Nederhouser Community Hall. Applications are available online at http://bit.ly/2i93UIQ or www.sylvaniaarts.org/tree-city-film-festival. The Application deadline is February 2.
The 2017 Tree City Film Festival will take place at Olander Park’s Nederhouser Community Hall on March 25 – 26 and will include the 2016 Oscar Nominated Short Films on Sunday, March 26 at 5:30 pm. A full line up of events and tickets are available online at www.sylvaniaarts.org/tree-city-film-festival.
