IT’S THE LAW
A new Ohio law states that motorists must leave three feet between their vehicle and a cyclist when passing. Cyclists are not required to hug the curb (where potholes, trash, and storm drains are hazards). They are permitted to take the entire lane, just as motorcyclists do.
The ABC Quick Check is a simple way to remember how to inspect your bike before you head out for the first ride of the spring.
A – Air. Check the condition of your tires. Check your pump.
B – Brakes. Make sure that brakes grip evenly and tightly.
C – Cranks & Chain. Roll the pedals around, make sure the chain is oiled, see that the gears shift easily.
QUICK – Quick Release. Look at the quick release connections on the front wheel and any other locations. Make sure they are solidly connected.
CHECK – Take a test drive and run through the gears, try the brakes, and adjust your mirrors.
