Step Afrika! to perform at Lourdes University

Lourdes University is pleased to present the Step Afrika! performance troupe on Friday, February 16 at 8 p.m. in the Franciscan Center Theater, 6832 Convent Blvd. in Sylvania. Part of Lourdes’ annual Sibs ‘N Kids weekend, the event is sponsored by the Student Activities Department and is open to the public. General admission is $5 per person. University students, faculty and staff are admitted free with their Lourdes ID.

Recognized as one of the top 10 African American troupes, Step Afrika! entertains, motivates and inspires young people around the globe. This is a great opportunity for our students and our region,” says Ashley Jackson, Coordinator of Student Activities & Orientation.

Lourdes University’s Annual Sibs N’ Kids Weekend allows students the opportunity to host their little sisters, brothers, cousins, nieces and nephews on campus while showing them what it means to be a Gray Wolf. Throughout the weekend, Lourdes students and their young guests enjoy various fun activities.

Step Afrika!
Step Afrika! is the first professional dance company in the world dedicated to the tradition of stepping. Established in 1994 as an exchange program with the Soweto Dance Theatre of Johannesburg, South Africa, the Company has expanded to become an international group that presents performances, residencies and workshops worldwide. Today, the Company continues to promote an appreciation for stepping as a contemporary dance genre and its use as an educational, motivational and healthy tool for young adults. The largest African American led arts organization in Washington, DC, Step Afrika! performs for more than 50,000 people in 10 countries each year, touching 23,000 youth through its arts education programs.
