  • Spring Walleye Run
  • @ the banks of the Maumee River
  • Late March into April
Walleye are present all year long in the Maumee River in relatively low numbers; however, the number of walleye dramatically increases during annual spawning runs up these tributaries from Lake Erie. The Maumee River, especially near Perrysburg is a favorite of fisherman. A variety of factors trigger the spawning run including: water temperature, river flow, and hours of daylight. Walleye spawning occurs anytime from mid-March through mid-April, but frequently the peak activity occurs the last week of March through the second week of April.

On March 29, 2014 taste the variety of award-winning chili and vote for your favorites for the People's Choice Award. A celebrity panel of judges will award the Judge's Choice. The Chili Corporate Team, Amateur Team, and Restaurant Team competitions are from Noon to 4 p.m. and the Chili Media Team Competition is from Noon to 3 p.m. There is also Salsa Tasting from area companies.

The WAVE Festival originated as a way to celebrate the successes and accomplishments of women throughout the local community.  In the spirit of our Franciscan values, we embrace the civic communities whom we engage, celebrating the many talents of our participants, and welcome the visitors who come to our campus.  In conjunction with the annual recognition of March as Women’s History Month, we are pleased to bring together talented artists, craftswomen, and performers for the afternoon. Maker’s Mart is the original one day indie craft fair in put on by Handmade Toledo. The fair features handmade crafts, artisanal food vendors and music for a unique shopping experience.


  • Tree City Film Festival

The Tree City Film Festival supports local, regional and national filmmakers in the pursuit of their art, and seeks to develop a committed, cultivated film audience in our community through education, entertainment and participation. The 2014 festival will take place April 24th – April 27th, and will include viewings and related events. The finished submissions to the “shorties” shorter short film challenge will be shown on Thursday April 24th, and the entries for the 50 hour short shoot challenge will be premiering on Saturday April 26th, 2014. This year they have announced the addition of a showcase of the Oscar Nominated Shorts, which is scheduled for Friday April 25th. Please stay tuned to their site for scheduling updates as this is the tentative calendar.

The2014 Toledo Opera production of Faust will be a revival of the much-lauded production premiered last season at Arizona Opera, designed by Bernard Uzan. It will feature a cast of internationally acclaimed guest artists. Sean Mathey, a Bowling Green, OH native and tenor, will sing the title role in his Toledo Opera main stage debut. The production will be under the baton of James Meena with stage direction and design by Bernard Uzan.

Planning for the 2014 Luminations, Lourdes' signature fundraising event, is underway. This year's amazing evening will begin with wine, cocktails, sumptuous grazing stations and a unique silent auction!

Entertainment will include special guest entertainer Tim Shew (pictured at right), the Broadway star who is currently performing the lead, Jean Valjean, in Les Misérables at the Omaha Community Playhouse. In addition to Tim, we will feature performances by the Toledo Ballet, the Toledo Symphony and the Artists in Residence from the Toledo Opera. After the entertainment program, guests will take pleasure in a luscious array of desserts, coffee and after dinner drinks as they continue to enjoy dancing and the music of The Maxx Band until the close of the evening.

The fifth annual Toledo Sister Cities International Festival will be held on Saturday, April 26th, 2014 in the Student Union at the University of Toledo. A full range of cultures and performances will be featured from 12 noon until 8:00 pm. A Parade of Nations will open the event at 12:15 pm. Six area restaurants will serve international fare while 23 performing groups entertain you.

One of the fastest marathon courses in the Midwest, The Glass City Marathon will begin in the center of the University of Toledo campus heading northwest into the quiet neighborhoods of Old Orchard, Ottawa Hills, and Sylvania. A fast flat surface along the University Parks Trail is sure to provide ample shade and scenery concluding with a grand finish in the Glass Bowl Stadium. Events include the marathon, 5-person marathon relay, half-marathon and companion 5K. All courses are USATF certified.

"The Biggest Week" celebrates the peak of spring migration in the Lake Erie Marsh Region of northwest Ohio. Centered on Magee Marsh Wildlife Area and Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge, the region has gained a reputation as "The Warbler Capital of the World" for the awesome concentrations and point-blank views of these fascinating little migrants. This birding festival "week” will be so jam-packed with workshops, warblers, guided field trips, warblers, half day trips, Lake Erie island birding trips, keynote speakers, workshops, and more warblers, that it will have to be held over 10 days, from Friday, May 3, through Sunday, May 12, 2013.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a great way to fight back against breast cancer and provide hope to all people facing the disease. Making Strides is not a race; it is a celebration of survivorship, an occasion to express hope, and a shared goal to end a disease that threatens the lives of so many people we love. Making Strides walks do not have a registration fee or minimum fundraising amount. They are open to men, women, and children of all ages. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer unites friends, families, and coworkers to raise awareness and funds to fight breast cancer. Your support enables the American Cancer Society to fund groundbreaking breast cancer research, provide up-to-date cancer prevention and early detection information, help ensure all women have access to mammograms and follow-up care, and provide free programs and services that improve the quality of life for people facing breast cancer.

Claire’s Day is a free family book festival held annually in honor of Claire Lynsey Rubini who passed away from a heart condition in 2000, when she was just ten years old.   Claire’s Day embraces all of her favorite activities, including telling stories, dancing, making crafts, but most of all, reading. The Claire’s Day Inc. mission is to inspire children of all ages and their families to be lifelong readers through exposure to a variety of literary opportunities and experiences. Claire’s Day Inc. is a 501(c) 3organization, and through the efforts of a part-time executive director and volunteers, plans and coordinates a variety of events and activities the week leading up to the book festival. These events include visits to area schools by authors and illustrators; a grant program to benefit schools and libraries, and Claire’s Night, a fund-raising event for adults. Claire’s Day is held on the third Saturday in May at the Maumee branch of the Toledo Lucas County Public Library, 501 River Road, Maumee, Ohio. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, May 17th.

The 2014 year will launch the 7th season of the Art Walk series, a program of The Arts Commission’s Live Work Create Toledo initiative. Several hundred guests attended the event each month throughout 2013 to visit an average of 20 to 25 partnering venues, collectively featuring hundreds of local, regional, national, and international artists. Art Walk is free and open to the public. The Art Walk series is a great opportunity to browse and purchase affordable local art while getting to know the artists, studios, galleries, and businesses that populate the Arts Zone, the Warehouse District, UpTown, and other neighborhoods in the Downtown area. Art Walk is presented by The Arts Commission in partnership with the artists, galleries, studios, businesses, and arts enthusiasts of Downtown Toledo.  A free, fun way to spend a summer evening while getting some fresh air and exercise, Art Walk offers guests a unique event featuring multiple galleries, local galleries, and eateries, hundreds of artists, and live entertainment each month.

What makes this event unique is that all of the best flower growers in the area will be here, the level of quality is of an utmost concern as this has become the premiere flower & plant event for all of Northwest Ohio. Over 60 vendors will be selling their best plants, yard art, plant accessories and crafts.  This is an event for the entire family. Various craft and food vendors will also be at the Market on all three days. There will be thousands of plants to choose from -- the absolute best selection of top quality plants in the Toledo area.  If you want to have a showpiece garden this year Flower Day at the Farmers' Market is the place to shop.

  • Mills Trophy Race and Party

The Mills Trophy Race is the premier sailing race on Lake Erie. Held the second weekend after Memorial Day, the race from Toledo Harbor Light to Put-in-Bay combines a challenging night race with great social activities. The Mills Trophy Race, sponsored by the Toledo Yacht Club, began in 1907 as a test of navigational skills. The race has been held nearly every year since then and, in keeping with the deed of gift, is raced at night. Although the race was originally configured as a triangle beginning and ending at the club or the Toledo Harbor Light, since 1981 the race has begun at the harbor light and ended at Put-in-Bay.


  • 40th Annual Historic Old West End Festival & King Wamba Parade

This downtown festival truly has a community feel that no other local event can provide. The elegant Old West End is one of Toledo's most historically significant neighborhoods and provides a great backdrop for this annual favorite, which celebrates the finest in art, music and food all in the museum's backyard. With hundreds of artists works on display, plan to spend at least a whole day exploring exploring the fun. This is the Old West End's time to shine and residents in this area always roll out the red carpet.

Midwest LatinoFest is a wonderful community event designed to create a greater awareness and understanding of the region’s growing and diverse Latino community in Toledo, Ohio. See the evolution of the common soldier from the Roman Legionnaire through the 20th Century. Soldiers, artisans, and civilians give demonstrations throughout the weekend. The Toledo Zoo's annual black-tie-and-tennis-shoe event features more than 45 of the Toledo area's premier caterers and restaurateurs, entertainment from local and regional bands, and one of the hottest social event tickets of the season. ZOOtoDO hosts more than 1,800 guests annually, raises funds for the continued development of Zoo exhibits and programs.

Accompanying music to the Fireworks will be simulcast on 93.5 FM – WRQN – Rock & Roll Oldies. Admission is only $5.00, children 12 and under $3.00. Parking: $5.00 per car. No carry-in food or beverages will be permitted at Centennial Terrace. The fireworks may also be viewed from Sylvania Pacesetter Park, 8801 Sylvania - Metamora Rd. There will be a $5.00 parking charge per vehicle at the park that evening. Families are encouraged to bring their own blankets or lawn chairs to Pacesetter Park. Concessions will be available.

The Marathon Classic presented by Owens Corning & O-I has made the hopes and dreams come true for many NWO children. The tournament was first held in 1984 at Glengarry Country Club (presently Stone Oak Country Club) until 1988 when it moved to Highland Meadows Golf Club. In 1984 the purse was only $175,000 and 100 golfers played in the tournament. Since that first tournament, the growth of the event has been due to the support of many local businesses and strong community support.  The tournament attracts all ages to watch the greatest female golfers in the world compete.

For the past nine years Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union has hosted the African American Festival, “Celebrating our History, Health and Education”. This is a weekend long family event that starts with a Prayer Breakfast, where local pastors and members of the community come together for prayer and fellowship. The official kickoff to the festival is a parade which receives great participation from various individuals, groups, organizations and businesses throughout the city. The festival offers two days of entertainment including national recording artists, local talent, vendors, rides and activities for the kids, along with health information and screenings. It is truly a family affair.

SoundTrek is an annual program designed to promote and elevate our local and regional music scene.  Featuring some of the most popular names in Toledo-area music, as well as up-and-comers, SoundTrek is a one-night showcase of excellent local music, great local venues, and Toledo’s music-loving public. The program’s intent is to cross musical lines, blending genre, culture, and style through performance. SoundTrek features hip-hop, rock, DJ and dance music, jazz, blues, funk, R&B, rockabilly, folk, bluegrass, and more. More than ten local music venues in Toledo’s UpTown District will come alive to feature more than 30 local and regional bands and musicians, with sponsored Street Performers on sidewalks. Wristbands will be $10 in advance, and $15 the day of the event. Individual venue admission is $5 per venue.

Last year, more than 1,000 bodies crawled from the shadows to chew on souls and barstools alike. This is the biggest zombie bash of the year - don't miss out! You and your undead friends are cordially invited to drag your limp remains to Wesley's Bar at 8:30 p.m. At roughly 9:30 p.m., the march for brains and beers will slumber slowly up the center of the street on a bar crawl that will curdle your grandmother's blood.

For ten days ending 2014 and beginning 2015, downtown Toledo will be transformed into a winter wonderland culminating with the first ever outdoor professional hockey game at the Mud Hens ballpark, as ProMedica Toledo Hospital presents the Toledo Walleye Winterfest!

Walleye Winter-"Fan"-Fest will be held at the Huntington Center. The event will include interactive activities for fans of all ages. It will also include a special exhibit from the Hockey Hall of Fame that you won't want to miss! The FanFest events will be held on December 27, 29 and 30, 2014.

Taking place on Wednesday December 31st, 2014 in the Grand Ballroom of The Grand Plaza Hotel in Downtown Toledo, New Year's Eve Toledo 2015 is something that will have to be seen to be truly believed. The event will feature dancing and entertainment from Jim Lieber, DJ Matt Lewis, and DJ AK, a special New Year's Eve Hors D'Oeuvre Buffet, a Champagne Toast at Midnight, an Historic NYE Balloon Drop filled with prizes, an NYE Photo Booth, and many other surprises. The aim is to bring the anticipation & excitement of large events back to NW Ohio in a very big way. The goal is to do something very special in the heart of Downtown Toledo to raise money to cure Type 1 Diabetes, as a portion of proceeds from this event will be donated directly to the JDRF.

Susannah is a misfit in her small, devout, town. Found bathing in a stream one afternoon, she is accused of indecency. The traveling preacher Olin Blitch tries to save her soul, but his actions lead to tragedy for them both.

Dozens of ice carvings will line both sides of Louisiana Avenue.
