The National Museum of the Great Lakes preserves these stories and artifacts surrounding one of the most important geographical aspects of the United States. Tour the Col. James M. Schoonmaker Museum Ship, also known as “Queen of the Lakes,” built in 1911 as a coal-hauler. Read about maritime technology and its impact on local commerce, and take a piece of history home at the museum store.

Admission Hours and Fees:

Tuesday – Saturday: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Sunday: 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm

(Col. James M. Schoonmaker open May – October)

(Last Schoonmaker boarding is at 4:00 pm)

The Museum is Closed on Mondays, New Year’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day

The Museum is OPEN on Memorial Day and Labor Day

(January – March, the museum is closed Monday and Tuesdays)

NOTE: For customer safety, the Museum will close for Lucas County Level 2 or 3 Snow Emergencies.

The Schoonmaker will close during periods of high wind, bad weather, or extreme heat.

Parking:

The Museum site offers several parking lots for its visitors. Designated handicapped parking is available in each lot.  Parking is FREE!
