Jessie and Bertha Fleck founded Cherry Street Mission Ministries in 1947, their calling was to provide people in need with sustenance for the body and nourishment for the soul. Named for its location on Cherry Street in Toledo, the mission provided meals, shelter, and the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the poor and homeless.

Cherry Street Mission has gone from a single facility in 1947 to Cherry Street Mission Ministries which encompasses over 15 facilities within 6 neighborhoods serving over 400 people everyday. We are the largest organization serving low-income and homeless men, women, and children in the 14 counties of Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan.

Cherry Street has expanded from providing basic services of food, clothing, and shelter to include purposeful and transformational mentoring through Biblically-based programs. At the Life Revitalization Center building (formally the Macomber High School), God is calling us to a new level of service by collaborating with our community to offer education, training, and job placement.

Cherry Street's continuum of care is centered on healing, stabilizing, and transforming the whole person. Those we serve will not be successful in life if they do not have a strong foundation for success, which includes training for a career and not a mere job. Our programs help guests see that they, not Cherry Street, can change their lives. Programs at Cherry Street allow participants to understand the areas of their lives that are preventing them from success in their relationships, spirits and souls and begin to help them walk through a holistic healing process accompanied by caring individuals who wrap them with support.

The vocational programs are open to guests of Cherry Street, people referred to Cherry Street by other social agencies, and the general public.  Our vocational and educational programs are offered in collaboration with community partners such as Penta Career Center, Northwest State Community College and Owens Community College.
Many guests have not had access to education or job training, which creates barriers to their life success. Cherry Street offers the opportunity for guests--as well as community members--the opportunity to participate in one of our many vocational or educational.

Cherry Street's current vocational and education programs include auto tech, and call center training. We will also add or expand existing programs like:  culinary, machine tool and die school, mental health services, GED classes, literacy tutoring, personal finance, and more. The vocational programs are open to guests of Cherry Street, people referred to Cherry Street by other social service agencies, and the general public.

As part of the continuum of care, the Ready for Life program provides guests with the life skills training that will complement their jobs skills training and education. Ready for Life prepares both men and women to return to their families and communities through spiritual transformation and practical skills development. Ready for Life offers individualized advocacy including referrals to other agencies for medical, substance abuse, and mental health assessments and/or care that Cherry Street cannot provide.
