The Toledo Farmers' Market

Begun in 1832, The Farmers’ Market of Toledo was a place for area farmers to sell their produce and provide the community with a centrally located place to shop for everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to live poultry.

First started on Monroe, Superior and Washington Streets, the Farmers’ Market has been operating at its Erie Street location since 1928. Back then, it wasn’t unusual to see families buying several bushels of fruits and vegetables to freeze or can for the winter. And even today, many visitors by large quantities for the same purpose.

Over the years, The Farmers’ Market has gone through many changes. With the help of a HUD grant from the federal government in the 1990’s, the Market has been upgraded with rebuilt stalls, better lighting and a new bridge over the creek that links Superior and St. Clair Streets.

Now run by the Farmers’ Market Association of Toledo, the market is a bustle of activity on “market days.” Fresh produce remains the mainstay of the Market, but visitors can also find fresh baked goods and breads, poultry, flowers, herbs, plants and much more. And with the Erie Street Market right next door, there’s something for everyone from antiques to delicious food to the Libbey Glass Outlet.

The Farmers' Market Association of Toledo (FMAT) goal is to provide a highly visible, centralized location for area farmers and gardeners to market high-quality produce directly to consumers. We support local small family farms, agricultural producers, and craftsmen, whose continued existence depends on direct marketing opportunities.

FMAT prides itself on being an anchor in the downtown Toledo area, and attracting surrounding community residents. We provide consumers an opportunity to talk directly to the growers of their food, in an open air market where people meet to visit with friends and neighbors.

Fresh local fruits and vegetables, herbs, annual plants, perennial plants, fresh baked breads, cookies, cakes, pies, honey, cheese, poultry, Toledo roasted coffee, soaps, and many many more items!
