Tell us more about some of your past projects?

Lead with love. THE Modern Dance Co. is a professional dance company for adults with paid performance opportunities, outreach programs for community impact and connection with the creative people around us! Our first show “Elevate” (11/17/18) was a message of art uplifting community, our second explored the healing of art through the theory of yin/yang. “THE Bazaar” was an intercultural celebration of dance and fine art. Our projects include fellow non-profit partners, community choirs, dance troupes, musicians, fine artists and other professionals in all aspects of the arts! We’re constantly connecting and constantly creating. For more info. or to connect, please go to www.themoderndancecompany.com.

I love writing and editing! And I try to follow the advice of my favorite author. Favorite past projects include: my first assignment from Adams Street Publishing - interviewing 2 dancers on tour with “West Side Story” and a time I called my brother asking if “Shoot the J” was a good basketball phrase (WTOL). Although I was never asked to cover anything sports-related again (just cut video), I have met some wonderful people and delight in writing content for websites, blogs and blurbs.

What current projects are you working on?

Tickets are up for THE Modern Dance Co.’s “Fosse & Jazz Revue” - a community cabaret complete with acting, singing, dancing, tightrope walking! Show dates are March 20 & 21, 7p at Toledo Repertoire Theatre.

I’ve connected with this awesome company out of Toledo, Ohio that designs these fantastic, eco-friendly Growing Candles. When the candles are done, you plant wildflowers in the same holder! You should definitely check them out. I’m so stoked to be on their writing team.

What advantages does being in Northwest Ohio/Toledo offer your efforts?

The people here make it amazing. I mean, aside from the obvious - our families, friends and my best friend/business partner - the arts community is thriving! I want a piece of this story… this creative, affordable story.

Tell us about one of your greatest successes.

My greatest success is for sure my family. But I also feel working with a greater purpose in any area of life is the best success I could ask for.

Tell us who or what gives you inspiration?

When I am open to new information, I work inspired. I listen to music from other languages or listen to interviews, read books on anything. You know. Art imitates life! When I came back to the studio after having my second child I kept doing this move like cradling a baby.. lol. My writing also reflects who I am reading. Lately it’s been a lot of blogg-y stuff.

Tell us about your background.

I grew up in Maumee. My mom and aunt opened OnStage Studio - which was an amazing place for the performing arts. We had acting classes, piano, voice along with dance classes! I had a blast. And I was very lucky. I’ve been keeping journals since I was in 5th grade. I don’t save them though. Part of my new philosophy of “Oh well.” Haha.

Do you have a motto or favorite quote you try to live by?

Be the change…

Favorite place for local culture?

I’m going to have to say the Secor Building on this! It has so much going on - non-profits like Women of Toledo, Toledo Opera and so many studios, galleries, Registry Bistro! It’s loud and fun and it makes me happy.

My favorite place to chill locally is . . .

Any Metropark

My favorite natural space in the Toledo area is . . .

...still any Metropark

When I’m not working hard, I can always be found at . . .

impulse-renting books from the library - esp. cookbooks

If you could change anything about the current landscape for creative, progressive people . . .

Charge what you’re worth in your artistic profession. That sets the bar for the person behind you and informs the people around you.

Any exciting collaborations (past or present) you would like to tell us about?

I’m excited to be on the directing team for the 35th annual “A Christmas Carol”! This will be my third time choreographing.

Name one person (living or deceased) who you would love to collaborate with.

My husband Charles Hill. We started out as a jazz duo, played one gig and started dating. Ha!

Name a CD, book or website you can’t live without.

How to Talk so Kids Will Listen & Listen so Kids Will Talk by Faber and Mazlish

3 words that best describe me or my work are . . .

Fun. Done. Sleep.

Give us 5 Desert Island Album picks.

My biggest vice is . . .

swearing

I’d like to see __________ in Toledo.

What’s the last dream you recall having?

Ugh! It was terrible. I was cleaning.

The last lyric that moved me was . . .

Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall.. All You Have to do is Call - sung by my 3-year-old

One movie character I identify with is . . .

Gosh. I really don’t have a good answer for this! lol. Where is the movie about a working mom who tries to choreograph in the kitchen and write from her car? That woman is me.

The best gift I’ve ever received was . . .

recently, takeout Chinese food and a single rose. It was that simple. It was that amazing.

My most inspiring moment was/is . . .

on a boat tour of Paris drinking champagne and crying like an awe-struck tourist.

I want my last meal to be:

Lobster - bisque if I cannot chew (gross!)
