PRIZM Creative Community is pleased to announce a solo artist exhibition of Chris C. Burch titled “Capturing the Beauty and History of America, One Image at a Time”, at the semi-private Bowling Green Country Club located at 923 Fairview Ave, in Bowling Green. The exhibition will start October 5th and will run through the end of November, Free and open to the public.
Artist Chris C. Burch has come full circle while photographing the landscape of America, although he has a vast collection of subject matter, it is the aged, sun-burnt, weathered and still functioning barns that first caught Burch’s photography eye.
“Heartland, small town architecture and historical barns, the kind that can be found not only on the tobacco farms of the Carolinas, where they first drew my interests, but the ones that dot the landscape on farms from Pennsylvania to Iowa.”
Burch attended Bowling Green State University graduating in 1966 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration focused on Labor Relations. Originally born and raised in New Jersey, Burch began his photography career in resort town Calabash, NC back in 2007. Learning the art of photography with the use of his two Canon 35mm film cameras, one for black and white pictures and the other for color. “Given that two, maybe three images out of twenty-four on a roll of film captured the subject properly, it became expensive developing film” and as a result, he soon upgraded to digital camera. His first began to master his craft with a Canon T2i, then a T3i and then in 2014 a Canon T5. Burch states that the camera upgrades were driven by his desire to increase pixel strength and limit “bleed out” on his 36” x 48” Giclees; photography images wrapped on canvas.
Burch credits the late Shallotte, NC, gallery owner, Melinda Jones for encouraging him to submit his photographs into contests, attributing his early black & white images for his beginning success. His work then began to show in local newspapers and calendars designed by the local merchants, showing images of North Carolina’s coastal life. Eventually Burch’s photography was commissioned by the local McDonald’s franchise, on Route 17 in Shallotte, NC, for six large panel images installed in their dining area.
In 2012, Chris Burch and his wife moved back to Bowling Green, OH. He has transitioned from lighthouses back to flowers and his first muse, barns. He has always been a point and shoot photographer, self-taught that learned his craft through photography clubs and two mentors: Mike Covington and Jerry Koons. Come share some of his journey at the Bowling Green Country Club, available for viewing on Mondays from 4-8p.m., Tuesdays-Thursdays from 11a.m. to 8p.m., Fridays from 11a.m. to 5p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 9a.m. to 6p.m.
