Event Details:

Bowling Green State University holds a Cherry Blossom Festival, or O-Hanami, each year in April. The event is organized and presented by the Asian Studies Program and the Japanese Club. It started as a gesture of gratitude to the Tokyo Alumni who donated 50 Japanese cherry trees to BGSU in the fall of 2001. We had over 800 visitors last year.

The BGSU Cherry Blossom Festival is held in the Grand Ballroom of the Bowen Thompson Student Union. The event features many activities and has broad appeal. There will be several workshops, including: origami, brush writing called shodo, kimono try-ons, tasting tea-ceremony tea, the flower arrangement “ikebana”, and traditional Japanese games. During the festival there will be raffles for Japanese items and other fun activities. In keeping with Japanese traditions of the festival, attendees will have opportunities to participate in bon-odori Japanese dance. The o-hanami will also feature martial arts demonstrations, traditional Japanese dance performances, and Japanese style taiko drumming by the BGSU Alumni Taiko Group. The visitors will enjoy free sushi and the Japanese snacks. All are free and open to the Public. (Rain or Shine)
