GENERAL EVENT NOTICE: Due to recent concern over the spread of the corona virus, suggests confirming with the actual organizers that this event is still proceeding as planned.

Event Details:

Trick or treating might be a little more tricky this year, thanks to Covid-19 guidelines and individual households trying to navigate how to make the costumed, candy-filled holiday special for their children.

The Children’s Theatre Workshop, in partnership with the Old West End social committee and A Renewed Mind, present “Howl and Seek” as a more Covid-friendly alternative to trick or treating this year. Unlike traditional trick or treating, the Children’s Theatre Workshop have assembled a more theatrical and creative approach to the spookiest time of year.

On October 25, 2020, small groups will be sent one at a time on the Howl and Seek path, in the Old West End neighborhood, to play small games, make crafts, and get a little dramatic. On the sidewalks of the OWE, they’ll encounter a frustrated evil genius who can’t seem to master the right dance moves for her monster mash party, and they’ll show off their groove to inspire her. Later they’ll help a nervous monster feel brave enough to host their haunted house by making not-too-scary masks, and so on until they complete all the activities on their map.

There are nine stops in all, or a shorter “little pumpkins” route for younger children. Howl and Seekers will collect stickers on their map to show they’ve completed each stop; when they turn in their completed map, they’ll receive a small bag of candy. Howl and Seekers are encouraged to dress up in their costumes for a more Halloween feel to the event.

Covid-19 guidelines in are in place for this event: Howl and Seekers must be in groups of 9 people or less, everyone must be masked while participating in the activities, hand sanitizer will be available at each station, and the groups will be distanced from each activity’s leader as well as the other groups.

To participate, adults must register their Howl and Seek group of nine people or less at, by October 24, 2020. They will select their start time, which begin at 2:00 pm and are available on the half hour until 5:30 pm. On Sunday, October 25, the Howl and Seek groups will arrive in the Old West End for their maps and instructions. Tickets are $10 for the full Howl and Seek Path, and $5 for the “little pumpkins” path, and must be purchased in advance. Children must be supervised by an adult; however, there is no charge for adults who walk the path. Space is limited to ensure distancing.
