“Chalk, Paper, Scissors” exhibition at 20 North Gallery
Works on paper by 2 Toledo area artists on display in downtown gallery

On Friday, July 15, 20 North Gallery will open a new exhibition of works on paper by two Toledo-area artists in Chalk, Paper, Scissors: Works on Paper by Paul Brand and Anastasia Wagner.” The exhibit comprises the pastel and charcoal landscapes of Paul Brand and mixed media portrait collages of Anastasia Wagner, defining relationships between the viewer and the natural world.

The exhibit will open with a free, Public Reception on Friday, July 15, 2022 from 6 – 9 p.m., featuring a light tapas buffet and cash bar. The exhibition will continue through September 24, 2022.

20 North Gallery art director Condessa Croninger remarks, We are delighted to mount this exhibition of new and recent work by two well-known faces of Toledo's art scene, established artist Paul Brand and emerging artist Anastasia Wagner. Chalk, Paper, Scissors combines Brand’s abstract-inspired charcoal landscapes and the intricate layering of Wagner's mixed media collage, to create enticing dialogue between the viewpoint of the audience and their conception of physical location and identity.”

The landscapes of Paul Brand are formed through an abstract approach. His dramatic use of contrast and sensitivity for visual texture result in somewhat ethereal representations of real locations. The collages of Anastasia Wagner combine mediums and subjects to create portraits that blend portraiture with florals. Her application of painting mediums adds subtle physical texture to her works on paper.
