Know Your Rights: Protecting & Advocating for LGBTQ+ Students

Join Equality Toledo’s monthly Parent Group for an empowering and informative Know Your Rights (KYR) presentation focused on the latest legal changes impacting LGBTQ+ students and their families.

This session will explore:
 Recent changes in the law affecting LGBTQ+ youth
 How parents and supporters can help keep Q+ students safe in school
 Practical strategies for advocating for LGBTQ+ students
 How to request IEPs and 504 Plans for students with mental health needs or disabilities
 Legal services available through ABLE’s education law team

Our presenter, Jennifer Martinez, is the Supervising Attorney for the Education Practice Group at Advocates for Basic Legal Equality (ABLE). Jennifer brings decades of experience as a civil rights advocate, having worked with the ACLU of Ohio, served as a Public Defender, and led major civil rights and immigration cases at the state and federal level. She now leads high-impact education and disability rights work, providing both legal representation and legislative advocacy for families and students.
This session is also an opportunity for parents and supporters to share concerns, ask questions, and connect directly with an experienced advocate who understands the challenges families are facing in today’s changing legal landscape.
