Event Details:
In 2026, Ohio will host "Ohio Goes to the Movies" a 250-day statewide celebration spotlighting the state's rich contributions to the film industry. Running from mid-February through October, this event is a signature initiative of the America 250 Commemoration, marking the 250th anniversary of the United States. Because of this, the final film in our Silver Screen Series will be The Shawshank Redemption--an incredible story filmed in and around Mansfield, Ohio, with the most iconic site being the incredibly austere and now decommissioned Ohio State Reformatory.
This film combines powerful storytelling, unforgettable performances, and profound themes of hope, resilience, and human dignity. Based on the novella by Stephen King and directed by Frank Darabont, the film follows Andy Dufresne, a banker wrongly imprisoned for murder, and his unlikely friendship with fellow inmate Red. The film challenges audiences to consider the value of freedom—both physical and emotional —and the power of perseverance and connection.
This film will be coupled with a unique pre-show beer tasting experience held on the 2nd floor overlook inspired by a scene from the movie in which Andy Dufresne persuades one of the prison guards to bring him and his fellow inmates each a beer for their final day of work resurfacing the prison roof.
