Wild Reads Book Club at the Toledo Zoo

From animals to ecosystems, from trees and flowers to tigers and frogs, Wild Reads is the place for you! Read the selected books then meet at the zoo for a lively literary discussion with mimosa (or coffee) in hand. At the conclusion of the discussion, participants will enjoy a tour of the zoo highlighting the themes and topics of that meeting's book.

The Genius of Birds
From clever crows crafting tools to peppy parrots prattling on, one should never underestimate the brain-power of birds. This captivating exploration of avian intelligence spotlights several species as ingenious problem-solvers, skilled communicators, and highly adaptable survivors. At the conclusion of the book discussion, participants will visit several of the zoo’s avian exhibits to see some first-hand examples of birds being anything but ‘birdbrained’. Along the way participants will be joined by the Zoo’s resident ornithologist to help us spot any Ohio-native avian species worthy of cognitive recognition.
