At the conclusion of the discussion, participants will enjoy a tour of the zoo highlighting the themes and topics of that meeting's book.
Stolen World
What does it mean to collect nature? Who gets to decide how animals are used, protected, or displayed? Discuss these and other challenging topics as we read Stolen World, an eye-opening exploration into the global wildlife trade and the complex human desires driving it. Through immersive reporting and unforgettable characters, Stolen World traces how curiosity, greed, and conservation intertwine—raising urgent questions about ownership, exploitation, and our responsibility to the living world. After our book discussion, participants will visit the newly renovated reptile house for an up-close look at how these themes play out in real life. We’ll meet with expert herpetologists to discuss reptile husbandry and conservation work to connect the book’s ideas to the daily practices of preserving biodiversity and protecting endangered animals.
