Ballet Theatre of Toledo’s “Snow Queen” casts her icy spell over Toledo in March

Nigel Burgoine, Artistic Director and Choreographer brings Hans Christian Anderson’s classic folktale story of the “Snow Queen” to life with a family friendly ballet, March 17th -19th.  Many people may be familiar with Disney’s spin of this tale, the movie “Frozen”.

Burgoine has taken the original storybook characters of Gerda and Kai who are childhood friends that share of love of flowers.  They are told of the legend of the Snow Queen who is beautiful but has a vengeful heart and imprisons anyone who is lost or wandering in the frozen forest.  Only the love found in true friendship can break the Queen’s powerful spell.

Mythical creatures like Trolls brew up some fun by creating a magical mirror that makes all things beautiful turn ugly. The theme of helping one another and never giving up on friendships runs throughout the story. This tale, set to dance and music by Glaznov, blends beautiful classical ballet movements, drama, and comedy then culminates into a happy ending.

Performances are 7pm Friday and Saturday March 17 and 18, and 2pm on Sunday March 19 at Trinity Episcopal Church.  Tickets are $15-20. For more information or to purchase tickets contact Ballet Theatre of Toledo (419) 861-0895.
