Event Details:

The 13th Amendment that supposedly ended slavery left a giant loophole commonly referred to as "the exception clause" It reads"...except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted..." Some states are using this and other means to allow obscene profits.

There is a national growing movement inside the prisons with support from activists on the outside to challenge and expose these practices.

Our panel will discuss the national movement, Ohio's roll, our successes and the many hurdles we face.

Rick Kerger Esc. Kerger has handled trials and appeals for over 40 years. He has been in
countless federal and state prisons and corresponded with inmates in even more. He regards the
present prison system as one of our country's worst tragedies, a social Vietnam.

Minister Lionel Muhammad: National coordinator Nation of Islam Prison Ministry. Minister Lionel spent 23 years behind the walls for a crime he didn't commit.
If Lionel can't make it, he will send a representative to fill in.

Dennis Boatwright: Boatwright has been at the forefront of the prison resistance movement for at least 2 decades both inside and outside the walls. Click here for an article written by him in 2012.

All panelists have been involved in current and past prison activism and will provide excellent insight on where we've been, where we are now, and what needs to be done as we move forward.
