Event Details:

The Polly Fox Academy is the only community school in Northwest Ohio devoted to educating middle and high school pregnant and parenting students, and a rarity across the entire nation. The school was launched in 2003, by Toledo Public Schools, to ensure that these students receive the support to complete their high school education. The school was named after Polly Fox, a long-time Toledo Public School teacher that dreamed of this type of specialized school. Polly realized, what numerous studies prove, that pregnant and parenting teen parents, without individual assistance and targeted services, do not thrive in a standard public school system and, as a result, experience higher dropout rates. As many of 60% of teen mothers never complete their highschool education.

As you can only imagine, our students face significant hurdles such as inequality, disparity, abandonment, and hopelessness, on the road to graduation. That is why our staff spends a substantial amount of time caring for, encouraging, and inspiring teen moms to dream big and believe in themselves, and their children. Our classes and wrap-around social services ensure that these teen moms:

  • Continue their education during and after pregnancy

  • Develop educational goals and career direction

  • Receive quality medical care before, during, and after childbirth

  • Learn infant care and parenting skills

  • Benefit from our partner childcare providers

  • Receive ongoing support from appropriate agencies and services

  • Have access to a safe and secure environment to learn, grow, graduate and thrive

We have seen much success over the past 14 years. Over 330 girls have graduated, and many have gone on to college and now work in our community in various fields, such as nursing, dental and social services, to name a few.

Due to the Ohio Department of Education's financial cuts, we are now asking our community to support our efforts to help our students to continue to realize their dreams, so that they can be an example to their children of what it takes to be successful.

We hope that you will join us on Tuesday, November 28 for our Dreams for Polly event. We have a great night planned with amazing food by Registry Bistro chef Erika Rapp. You will undoubtedly enjoy the “Day in The Life” video that we created of a Polly Fox student, and you’ll be inspired to hear from other students of what it takes to graduate and thrive. We trust that you will be encouraged to fulfill your own dreams by taking part in our Dreams for Polly photo booth where you write out your very own dream and take a photo, just like the students in the invitation.

Together, we can make a difference.
