Event Details:

All citizens who cherish the diversity of our community and celebrate its compassion are invited to stand in solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters on Friday, February 10, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Masjid Saad Foundation, 5225 West Alexis Road, Sylvania, OH 43560.

Tom Landgraff, Chair of the Social Justice Subcommittee of the Toledo Chapter of the Association of U.S. Catholic Priests (AUSCP), is calling on members and friends of all area religious and civic groups to show support by gathering in peace to express sorrow and hope in the face of recent challenges to the civil and religious rights of Muslims in our country.

“Compassion is intrinsic to all religions. Catholic Social Teaching tells that we are required to stand in solidarity with the vulnerable.

“In his encyclical ‘On Social Concern,’ Pope John Paul II wrote that solidarity ‘is not a feeling of vague compassion or shallow distress at the misfortunes of so many people, both near and far. On the contrary, it is a firm and persevering determination to commit oneself to the common good; that is to say, to the good of all and of each individual, because we are all really responsible for all.’

“Bishop Daniel Thomas of the Diocese of Toledo has asked us to pray ‘for a new respect for the dignity of every human person; for the protection and safety of all persecuted men, women, and children; for all families impacted by this policy; for prudence and wisdom for all our elected officials; and for charity, peace and justice for all.’

“We therefore stand in solidarity with our Muslim friends.”

Participants wishing to bring signs are asked to make them positive and prayerful.
