The Speaker Series Committee for the Global Leadership Program presents “Healthy Societies: Global Health with Dr. Gupta '01” featuring Dr. Vinay Gupta. This free event will be on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at 6:30 - 7:30 pm at Maumee Valley Country Day School’s Millennium Theater. There will be a reception in the theater lobby from 7:30-8:00 pm.

Vin Gupta, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Global Health at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), focusing on the global burden of non-communicable diseases. At IHME, he helps lead a research portfolio funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies focused on the attributable disease from tobacco use globally. The impact of environmental health considerations (e.g., air pollution) on chronic respiratory disease is a secondary area of focus. Dr. Gupta concurrently holds active commissioning as Major in the United States Air Force Reserve Medical Corps, where he serves as a deployable critical care physician. In this capacity, Dr. Gupta helps lead the training of military partner nations in Africa in building up critical care platforms to enable enhanced health-crisis response, a key component of the US State Department’s African Peacekeeping Rapid Response Partnership ("A-Prep”).

Before joining IHME, he directed the Strategic Health Diplomacy Initiative at Harvard University, where he trained in Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine at Brigham & Women’s Hospital. He received his BA from Princeton, his MD from Columbia, his Master's in International Relations from the University of Cambridge, and his Master's in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government. He is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations and is on the boards of several health-focused nonprofit organizations nationwide.
