When: Monday, February 19th, 2018, 1-3 p.m.

The Arts Commission will offer creative programming for teens and tweens on Presidents’ Day. This free day of art making will take place simultaneously at five branch locations of the Toledo Lucas County Public Library system. Youth will have the opportunity to learn new visual art techniques from local artists. Pop-up performances by local talent will add to the fun. The Arts Commission staff will also be available to assist youth in applying for a summer job with Young Artists at Work - YAAW program in library computer labs.

Specific details around local artists and performers featured will be made available on our website as the final information is available.

YAAW Background:
The Arts Commission has presented the award-winning YAAW program since 1994. Student apprentices between the ages of 14 and 18 are selected in a competitive process for six weeks of employment as working artists, with the objective of providing an intensive arts experience that fosters artistic self-expression and a quality work ethic that can impact the youth and shape their adulthood. The program encourages expression, refinement, cross-cultural sharing and the exchange of ideas.

YAAW provides exposure to the concept of art as business plus opportunities to create public art and to form mentorship relationships with artists and art educators in our community.
