“‘I Got a Lust for Life’: The Unique Words and Sounds of Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan” is a free and public series of panel discussions, poetry readings, and musical performances, reflecting the impact of the African American Great Migration on literary and musical expression in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. The program takes place at multiple venues: from Wayne State University, to the Toledo Lucas County Public Library, to the Toledo Museum of Art.

The program kicks off on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at 10:00 AM in Detroit: at Wayne State University in the Schaver Music Recital Hall, Old Main with a panel discussion. Back in Toledo, starting at 2:30 PM, join us for a poetry reading by Tyehimba Jess at the Toledo Lucas County Public Library in the McMaster Center of the Main Library, in downtown Toledo. You are invited to stick around for a second panel discussion starting at 6:00 PM at the Toledo Museum of Art in the GlasSalon, Glass Pavilion. 

• To catch a ride from Toledo to Detroit, for the morning panel discussion, be sure to select the free 8:00 AM ticket and arrive before the bus departs at 8:00 AM from the Main Library, in downtown Toledo. To get a ride back to Toledo, be sure to arrive before the bus departs at 12:30 PM from Old Main, on the Wayne State University campus, in Detroit. Riders will be returned to the Main Library in downtown Toledo.

• If you live in the Detroit area and wish to head to Toledo just to attend the Tyehimba Jess poetry reading, be sure to select the free 4:30 PM ticket. Arrive before the bus departs at 12:30 PM from Old Main, on the Wayne State University campus, in Detroit. You will be driven to the Main Libary in downtown Toledo for the Tyehimba Jess poetry reading. To return to Detroit, be sure to arrive before the bus departs at 4:30 PM from the Main Library. Riders will be returned to Old Main, on the Wayne State campus in Detroit. 

• If you live in Detroit and wish to stay for the evening panel discussion, select the free 8:00 PM ticket. Arrive before the bus departs at 12:30 PM from Old Main, on the Wayne State University campus, in Detroit. You will be driven to the Main Library in downtown Toledo for the Tyehimba Jess poetry reading. Afterward, catch a bus ride from the Main Library to the Toledo Museum of Art, where the second panel takes place. This bus will depart at 4:30 PM from the Main Library to the Museum campus. To catch a bus ride back to Detroit, after the evening panel discussion, arrive before the bus departs at 8:00 PM from the Toledo Museum of Art’s Glass Pavilion in Toledo. Riders will be returned to Old Main, on the Wayne State campus in Detroit.
