Super Bowl Sunday is a day of mass consumption – 100 million viewers will tune in while eating and drinking thousands of calories and watching millions of dollars worth of advertising. But another event hosted by Lutheran Social Services of Northwestern Ohio will focus on those who have very little to eat.

In partnership with Souper Bowl of Caring, Lutheran Social Services of Northwestern Ohio is hosting a fundraiser “Soup R Bowl-A-Thon”, on Saturday, February 1, at Forest View Lanes.

This fun-filled family event for all ages and skill levels will help raise funds for the two emergency food pantries it operates in Toledo and Findlay. The LSS Emergency Food Pantries serve over 1,000 individuals each month. The pantries have seen traffic increase over the past year by nearly 19%. Starting April 1, over 700,000 people in the U.S. will lose the benefit commonly known as food stamps. The food pantry clients, during this transition, are expected to increase considerably.

The bowling fee is $20 per person. Admission includes 2 games of bowling, goodie bag, shoe rental and bowling prizes for top team score. Registration begins at 11am. Non-bowlers can participate in the raffles and silent auctions with prizes including: Signed NFL footballs from the Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins and Detroit Lions; autographed framed jersey of Detroit Red Wings All-Star Tyler Bertuzzi; Breakfast for a year from McDonald’s; Autographed football from Coach Kelly of the University of Notre Dame; Toledo Walleye and Toledo Mud Hens fan packages; two night stay at the Renaissance Toledo; online auctions includes “Super Bowl Bound” ex-Ohio State Buckeye Nick Bosa signed San Francisco 49ers jersey and a signed jersey from NBA All-Star Kevin Love of the Cleveland Cavaliers and more.

Spike from the Toledo Walleye will be making an appearance from 12-1pm.
