Hudson Gallery is pleased to present a two woman exhibition of all new paintings by Adrian, Michigan based painter Kris Schmidt and ceramic sculpture by Toledo, Ohio based ceramicist Jan Thomas in their downtown Sylvania, Ohio gallery.

Artists Schmidt and Thomas are known regionally for their expertly crafted works. Schmidt is recognized for her loosely rendered oil landscape paintings that are welcoming, tender and peaceful. Schmidt states these works “…with stormy skies and hopeful lights on the horizon, a reflection of our times” have helped lead her home. All human beings are naturally drawn to a vastness in scenery. Schmidt’s paintings carry the vastness of a forever infinite sky, the recognition of close meadow grass and the emotive mood of nature’s calming spirit. Viewing the paintings one can clearly observe the pull Schmidt feels for her Lenawee County landscape.

Inspired by an array of sources and materials Thomas’s ceramic, wood and metal works are as exceptional as they are bold. “Nature and women are the most common themes in my work; I am a hand builder in clay, who happens to be female, and nature is my religion”, states Thomas. Her concern for the position in society for the female gender and the threatened health of the natural world is evident in her work. “My work is a message of coexistence. By creating glimpses of women serenely, joyfully embracing nature I pay homage and celebrate both”. The artist’s hope is that you will as well.

Join them for the Opening Reception on Friday, October 2nd, visit with the artists and explore downtown Sylvania during the Red Bird Art Walk. Hudson Gallery will be following all safety protocols during the reception.
