Le BBQ is a casual gourmet barbecue on the Maumee River in Toledo to benefit Toledo Opera education programs. Start with the Gourmet Hamburger Sliders or the Two Ginger Marinated Grilled Shrimp on a Skewer and eat your way to the "Ultimate Strawberry Bar."
Since 1986, Toledo Opera has incorporated educational programs to enhance its ability to serve the needs of the community. Toledo Opera continues to expand its acclaimed Education and Outreach program which has already touched the lives of over 500,000 young people through performances and participatory workshops in schools and communities throughout our region.
Opera on Wheels
Each spring Toledo Opera goes "on the road" for a two-month period to area schools. Our young resident artists sing and act in a children's opera that is full of wonderful arias and antics. It is truly a multi-media experience, combining music, dance and drama with the visual elements of scenery and costumes. Operas often take place in a culture and time period that is different from today's America. Your students will have fun while learning history, foreign languages, music, theater and human nature. The experience of seeing opera "live" and talking with the performers afterward is, as one student put it, "AWESOME!"
Student Night at the Opera
In addition to its entertainment value, Student Night at the Opera is a powerful learning opportunity for students interested in music, theater, history, foreign languages and human nature. Teachers can maximize their students' learning by using our Teachers' Guides for each of this season's operas. Music videos combining words, music and images are nothing new - opera has been doing that for 400 years! Add history, great stories, different languages and cultures and you have a fantastic experience for students and their teachers. Group reservations and payment in advance are necessary.
Toledo Opera Young Artist Program
Toledo Opera Young Artists will have performance opportunities through the Opera's extensive education and outreach programs. Artists also have the opportunity to participate in master classes conducted by guest artists. The Opera will hold auditions for a soprano, tenor, baritone and pianist. Housing and a weekly stipend is provided by the company.
