Among 20th Century literary heroes, there is only a small handful of writers who exist in a class all by themselves. One of those writers is Charles Bukowski.

Perhaps the first true post-beat writer, Bukowski was a blue collar low life who had a keen understanding of the pointless of life, and subsequent beauty (even if it was the beauty of a withered flower) that arose from it.

A drunkard's drunk, Bukowski was famous throughout his life for being both heroicly decadent and shockingly prolific. In his 50-plus years working as a writer, Bukowski wrote thousands of poems, short stories, and novels, resulting in more than 60 books.

On Tuesday, March 9, 2010 Toledo’s literary community unites at ? where else, a bar! ? to
celebrate one of the most notorious writers of the 20th Century. The annual Bukowski memorial reading will take place from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Wesley's Bar (1201 Adams St.) where a number of writers will celebrate Bukowski's unique words and stories with a number of selected readings.

Join Ashley Eichner, Lance Hulsey, Caroline Gauger, Mike Kochinski, Ryan A. Bunch and a number of other writer's, poets, singers, and misfits for this hilarious, heartbreaking, libation-inducing night of readings of Bukowski poems, stories, and tales.
