On Monday, Aug 1, the Gallery Project will host a one-of-a-kind exhibition to downtown Toledo.

Re:Formation will open Monday and run through Wednesday, August 31 at One Lake Erie Center, 600 Jefferson Avenue. The opening reception will take place from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, August 5, with music by DJ Mattimoe and food provided by Grumpy’s.

Gallery Project directors Rocco DePietro and Gloria Pritschet curated the show, which will focus on societal action and reaction. As The Gallery Project website describes it,

What is shifting? How are these shifts taking form? How do you experience this time of formation? What is your relationship to it, its impacts on you, your participation in this awareness and militancy? What can or should be done? What outcomes might result and what will the future look like? Re: Formation invites artists to actively express this unfolding reality as observers, participants, documentarians, conjurers and critics.”

In other words, the exhibition gives artists and viewers the chance to experience visually those changes that we see all around us, and it does so in the face of an upcoming election that is particularly polarizing.

For our friends in MI, there will also be an Ann Arbor Re: Formation, opening at the Ann Arbor Art Center (117 W Liberty) on Friday, September 9 until Sunday, October 16. The opening reception will be held Friday, September 9 from 6-9 p.m.

Participating artists include:

August 1-31, 2016. Hours: Thursday 12-6 p.m., Friday and Saturday 12-8 p.m., Sunday 12-5 p.m. August 1-3 and 29-31 hours are noon-6 p.m. 600 Jefferson Ave., Toledo.
