UT Saturday Art Workshops for Youth

The UT Department of Art will offer 4 workshops on Saturday mornings this fall for students ages 9 through high school. The topics are Crocheting, Hand Sewing, Building a Birdhouse, and Creating a Treasure Box and Puzzle Map. Below are the workshops and their dates. The workshops run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and are $25 each or $90 to take all four. All materials are included. Students are encouraged to pack a lunch. There will be a supervised break for lunch during the workshop, but lunch is not provided.
LEARN TO CROCHET – September 16
This workshop will focus on crocheting classic granny squares which can be used for blankets, bags, scarves and more.
LEARN TO HAND SEW – September 30
Students will learn the basics of hand sewing by making their own superhero mask and matching power cuffs.
BUILD A BIRDHOUSE – October 14
Using pre-cut materials, students will learn how to use the basic tools needed to build a birdhouse; then they will paint and decorate it.
CREATE A TREASURE BOX AND PUZZLE MAP – October 28
Students get to paint their own pirate treasure chest and design a puzzle piece map to go with it.

The workshops will be held in the UT Center for the Visual Arts (CVA), 620 Art Museum Drive, next to the Toledo Museum of Art. Free parking is available in the lot adjacent to the CVA. During the workshops, parents are welcome stay and watch or tour the CVA and/or visit the Toledo Museum of Art.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER – ALISSA COX
Alissa Cox has been an independent artist since 2006. Coming from a family of artisans and artists, she grew up learning woodcrafts, stained glass, blacksmithing, jewelry craft, quilting and painting. She moved her business, Smoky Grove, to Ohio in 2012 and has exhibited at Columbus Winterfair, the Great Lakes Jazz Festival and the Black Swamp Arts Festival. Alissa has taught several workshops in pyrography, sewing and painting.
