TSA Announces 2018-19 Performance Season

Toledo School for the Arts is pleased to announce highlights for the 2018-2019 school year!

Flying Pig Music Fest
Saturday, September 8 at 4:00pm in the parking lots of Toledo School for the Arts.
In its fourth year, the music festival will showcase live bands that include at least one member of the TSA Staff.

Kaleidoscope 2019
Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11 at 7:00 pm at the Valentine Theatre.
The annual showcase and culmination of the 2018-2019 season featuring performances and art from all of the school’s studios., Kaleidoscope offers a surprising evening of entertainment. The Kaleidoscope 2019 Art Exhibition will open at 6:00 pm before each performance.

Catch Me If You Can
Music and Lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman
Book by Terrence McNally
Thursday, October 18- Sunday, October 21 at Owens Community College Center for Fine and Performing Arts.
The first local production of the comedic musical chronicling the escapades of con artist Frank Abangale Jr. Based on a true story, Catch Me If You Can follows Frank as he falsely poses as a pilot, a doctor, and a lawyer, while being pursued by dogged FBI agent Carl Hanratty.

Senior High One Acts
Thursday, November 15 and Friday, November 16 at 7:00 pm at the TSA Attic Theatre.
TSA’s senior actors direct their younger colleagues in a series of short acts showcasing the extensive capacity of the Theatre Department.

Elf The Musical Jr.
Songs by Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin
Book by Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin.
Thursday through Sunday, December 6-9 at The Toledo Rep.’s 10th Street Theater
Based on the beloved holiday film, this hilarious fish-out-of-water comedy follows Buddy the Elf in his quest to find his true identity.

Musical Theatre Cabaret
Thursday, December 13, 7:00 pm at the TSA Flying Pig Cafe.
Broadway favorites and hidden gems performed by students of music theatre.

Twelfth Night
By William Shakespeare
Thursday, January 31- Saturday, February 2 at 7:00 pm and Sunday, February 3 at 2:30 pm at the Toledo Repertoire’s 10th Street Theater.
In Shakespeare’s classic comedy of mistaken identity, Viola disguises herself as a man after she is separated from her twin brother by a shipwreck. Of course, confusion ensues.

Spoken Word
Tuesday, February 12, 7:00pm in the TSA Attic Theater
Original work in poetry, prose and song display the clear and penetrating voices of TSA’s young writers.

Little Women

Book by Allan Knee
Based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott
Friday and Saturday , March 15-16 in the TSA Attic Theater
$16 adults, $10 students/seniors

Based on Louisa May Alcott's life, Little Women follows the adventures of sisters, Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March. Jo is trying unsuccessfully to publish her stories, when her friend, Professor Bhaer, tells her that she must write more from herself. Begrudgingly, Jo weaves the story of she and her sisters’ experience growing up in Civil War America.

Interwoven Musings
Friday, May 3, 7:00 pm.
It’s Fashion Forward as TSA’s students showcase their original designs, both sophisticated and quirky, on the catwalk. It’s the must-see fashion event of the season.

TSA Film Festival
Thursday, May 16, 6:00 pm at Handmade Toledo.
Showcasing films by TSA students, this juried presentation displays a range of short pieces from orthodox to inscrutable. Free admission.

Percussion Concert
Thursday, October 25, 7:00 pm at the TSA Attic Theatre.
TSA’s percussion studio presents an evening of striking selections.

Strings Concert
Monday, November 12, 7:00 pm at the TSA Attic Theatre.
Distinguished string students in their fall concert.

Chorus and Piano
Tuesday, November 20 and Thursday, March 28 at 7:00 pm at Trinity Episcopal Church.
The TSA chorus and piano students demonstrate their musical skill in concert.

Band Concert
Wednesday, December 12, 7:00 pm at the TSA Attic Theatre.
TSA band students perform their mid-season concert.

Disney Send-Off Concert: Studio Orchestra and GCS
Monday, February 25 at 7:00pm at Bowsher High School.
Help us bid the TSA studio orchestra and Glass City Steel Bon Voyage before their trip to Disney World!

Steel Drum Smash
Date TBA at Bowsher High School.
Glass City Steel presents an upbeat concert featuring the music of Toledo’s crowd-pleasing steel drum band.

Dancing with the Staff
Thursday, September 27, 7:00 pm at Bowsher High School.
The TSA staff joins students of the Dance studios as they vie to become the annual Dancing With The Staff Champion.

Choreography Showcase
Thursday, November 8, 7:00 pm at The Ohio Theatre.
The studio of Alison Reny presents an evening of student works. The winner of the choreographic competition will be featured in this spring’s Limitless. These young choreographers are regularly recognized amongst the best in Ohio, and the competition is lively and exciting.

A Wilde Ride
Wednesday, February 20, 7:00 pm at the Valentine Theatre.
Students from the studio of Kerri Wilde perform in a concert featuring modern and ballet works.

Wednesday, March 6 and Thursday, March 7 at 7:00 pm at the Valentine Theatre.
Exploring sculpture and architecture, Limitless Dance presents an evening of contemporary, tap, jazz, and musical theatre featuring the students of Alison Reny.

Wednesday, March 27, 7:00 pm at the Valentine Theatre.
The 15th annual dance concert featuring the members of Hajera Nation., Xhibit is unpredictable – an edge-of-your-seat dance experience from the studio of Talina Tolson.

Graffiti Project
Tuesday, April 30, 7:00 pm at Owens Community College Center for Fine and Performing Arts.
TSA’s hip hop showcase featuring the dancers of the Graffiti Project in their third annual performance.
