The Arts Commission August Art Loop Dog Days of Summer + Cats

The Arts Commission is pleased to present the August Art Loop | Dog Days of Summer + Cats to take place Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 5:30-9:00 p.m. Behind many artists is a furry friend that supports and inspires creativity. This month, the Art Loop celebrates our pets with special exhibitions of pet-themed art, pet portraits and characters, and special activities. Pets welcome!

The Art Loop is Toledo’s signature monthly arts experience. Explore the downtown creative community through self-guided tours of the art, artists, and spaces that inspire a vibrant Toledo. The Loop is a program of The Arts Commission, presented in partnership with the artists and participating venues who make it possible. Art Loop takes place each third Thursday of the month April-December, 5:30-9:00 p.m.

Art Loop is free and open to all. Wristbands to ride the Art Loop bus are $1.25 and include unlimited bus rides all evening.

Come to the Toledo-Lucas County Main Public Library (325 N. Michigan St). Parking is available in the Library garage until 9:00 pm. Or visit additional Information Stations at Handmade Toledo, Hensville, and Imagination Station.


For the safety of event-goers and our furry friends...

• All pets must be on a regulation leash (no retractable leashes) or in a secure pet stroller/carrier.

• Waste baggies are required and the owner's responsibility. Pet waste must be disposed of in a waste bag prior to putting into the waste receptacles available.

• Please make sure your pet is properly fed prior to the event. There will be water stations available when you arrive at the event.

• Pet owners are solely responsible for their pet(s) behavior and physical control and must carefully monitor and control it at all times. Please check with an individual venue to see their policy on pets.

Please join us in keeping the Art Loop safe, welcoming, and comfortable for all. The Art Loop allows our city to come together and celebrate its diverse creative community. The Arts Commission reserves the right to ask anyone who is not complying with general practices of good conduct that prohibits the enjoyment and safety of other event goers to leave the event.

We're excited to include our furry friends in the Art Loop this month! Final plans are falling into place. Bring your pooch to Hensville for artist vendors, caricatures, pet portraits by Harry Terrell, pet goodies by Three Dog Bakery, and more! Stroll down our Adoption Row to add another four legged member to your family. Information on support, adoption and rescue will be provided by local organizations; Humane Ohio, Toledo Animal Shelter, Animal House Rescue, Wood County Humane Society, Friends of Lucas County Dogs, Natures Nursery, Paws & Whiskers, Toledo's PET Bull Project, Planned Pethood Inc., and Lucas County Canine Care & Control. Everybody loves their pets! In this three-hour class, pastel instructor extraordinaire Mary Jane Erard will lead you through the process of sketching and drawing your pet's portrait in soft pastel. Most materials provided. Students are welcome to bring their own pastel supplies if they have some on hand, and would like MJ to teach them how to better use what they own.

The Art Loop is the perfect time to stock up on your pet inspired art. Pick up unique items made by local and regional independent designers, makers, and artisans from shops like Handmade Toledo, Jūpmode and Art Supply Depō along with artist vendors throughout the Warehouse District and Uptown. HANDMADE TOLEDO hosts an opening reception for a local 19 year old hyper realist painter, Amanda Gargac. Michelle Duni and friends are also going to be having their fancy cats in the big room.

Stop by SCENE ON THE GREEN (1904 Madison) to enjoy pony rides, carnival games, bubbles, a petting zoo including a yak, camel, calf, zebu, wallaby, Artic fox, miniature donkey, alpaca, llama, guinea pigs, giant horses, hedgehog, tortoise, and bunnies compliments of Chamberlin Pony Rides & Mobile Petting Zoo. While you're there take in some live music, face painting by Glitter Dragon, food trucks, and hands-on art activities.

Admission to Imagination Station is $5 after 5 pm on Art Loop nights.

Don't miss the British Artist, Rebecca Louise Law's Community Exhibition! Surround yourself in both dried and fresh plant materials that forms an immersive visitor experience exploring the relationship between humanity and nature, FREE Thursday's 5-9pm. Join fellow art and book lovers for a guided tour of how we engage our senses through art and the natural world.
